About us
Our missionTo celebrate and empower queer youth of faith.
Founded in 2020, Beloved Arise exists to serve LGBTQIA+ youth—especially those who have experienced condemnation, exclusion, or silence within their religious communities.
For many queer young people, faith is not a fringe interest. One in five LGBTQ+ youth say religion or spirituality is important to them. Yet most religious traditions continue to uphold beliefs and practices that make it difficult—if not impossible—for these youth to belong fully and thrive.
As a result, many LGBTQ+ youth experience faith not as refuge, but as rejection. Instead of comfort, they encounter shame. Instead of community, they feel alone.
Beloved Arise responds to this spiritual harm with relationship.
As a national mentorship program for queer youth of faith, we create safe, affirming spaces where young people are seen, heard, and accompanied. Through one-to-one mentorship, we help youth rediscover belonging, build resilience, and reclaim hope—without having to abandon either their faith or their identity.
Together, we can help queer youth know what so many have been denied:
that they are beloved, and they do not have to walk alone.
Why Beloved Arise existsMany queer youth experience faith not as refuge, but rejection.
Beloved Arise exists because too many LGBTQ+ youth of faith are told—explicitly or implicitly—that in order to belong, they must choose between their faith and their queer identity.
For many young people, this false choice carries devastating consequences. The Trevor Project estimates that 1.8 million queer youth in the U.S. seriously consider suicide each year. The shame that leads to these crisis points is often reinforced within religious communities, where young people are taught—directly or indirectly—that queerness is incompatible with God.
Research confirms this harm. A study on conversion therapy found that LGBTQ+ youth are twice as likely to attempt suicide when pressured to change by their parents, and three times as likely when that pressure comes from religious leaders. When spiritual authority is used to deny identity, the damage cuts deep.
Why Mentorship Matters
Queer youth who have been harmed by religion often carry depression, anxiety, and profound spiritual isolation. What many are missing is not belief—but belonging.
Mentorship provides a lived, relational experience of safety and care. For some youth, a Beloved Arise mentor may be the only person in their life who understands what it means to be both queer and faithful—someone they can be honest with, pray with, and share their struggles without fear of judgment or rejection.
Through relationship, we help young people reclaim what was taken from them: dignity, hope, and the knowledge that they are not alone.
Our workWe build mentorship relationships that empower LGBTQ+ youth of faith to thrive.
MENTORSHIPOur mentorship program connects queer youth of faith with queer mentors of faith. So instead of struggling on their own, they have a caring, affirming mentor — someone who show ups consistently, listens deeply, and walks alongside as they discover belonging, resilience, and hope.
RESOURCESWe cultivate our network of churches, mosques, temples, and other faith communities that offer safe places for youth to belong and thrive.
We offer the most comprehensive collection of faith & queerness resources to guide youth as they navigate their beliefs and identities.
We curate Living Proof Stories to inspire youth and show them that queer people of faith exist across all religious traditions.
HOPEWe inspire youth and activate allies on our thriving social media channels on Instagram and TikTok.
We host the annual Queer Youth of Faith Day — a celebration of LGBTQ+ youth of faith and a national, multi-faith call to prayer on June 30th.
Our FutureWe have a dream…
Beloved Arise is building a future where every young life can thrive—free from shame, grounded in love, and surrounded by people who see their sacred worth.
